The Ubuntu Forums have grown tremendously over the years. While we regret that we are discontinuing our Other OS Talk category, this gives us an opportunity to help other Linux distributions grow by directing traffic to the websites of these distributions.

Here is a list of the official websites for the operating systems that used to have individual forums here. We hope you are able to find further assistance from there. And finally, if you haven't yet found what you are looking for, we suggest you look for information on the DistroWatch website or you might try the multi-distribution LinuxQuestions forum.

Finally an OpenSuSE 10.3 Live CD

Today, OpenSuSE finally released a Live CD for 10.3. Only 32 bit versions, but better than nothing:

Gnome:
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...-Live-i386.iso

KDE:
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...-Live-i386.iso

Going to take a look at the distro now.

Is there any faster link or a torrent? It will take 7-8 hours with this speed.

It downloaded at full speed for me. I believe these are the only links right now, though I understand they will implement the Live CDs in the menu at http://software.opensuse.org in the next few days, in which case there will also be a torrent (I prefer torrents as well).

Re: Finally an OpenSuSE 10.3 Live CD

I downloaded the ISOs from the distrowatch links... came down with an average of 1,5 MB/s...

I'm glad downloads work so well on campus cause I don't miss torrent downloads (which I don't have acces to due to school's policy).

Can you install from the live disc, or is it just a preview?

Re: Finally an OpenSuSE 10.3 Live CD

Didn't try installing yet... I have a perfectly working installation (and that's rare for me at the level of experimentation I put it through) and I have 0 space left on my harddisk (another great thing about linux - it works under this harsh conditions). But I'll see if the installer starts at least.

Re: Finally an OpenSuSE 10.3 Live CD

The installer works fine, it's just like the Ubuntu installer only it's SuSE style.

I only performed a Gnome install on a friends computer, but the KDE install program seems to work to... it launches and that's all I can say about it.

Re: Finally an OpenSuSE 10.3 Live CD

For some reason, the Live CD was incredibly slow on my system. It took literally minutes for Firefox to start. Perhaps my CD got damaged, not sure. It's not the hardware, other Live CDs run fast.

Re: Finally an OpenSuSE 10.3 Live CD

Hmmm... am glad there is finally a LiveCD of OpenSuse. My friend wants to try linux and I wanted to pick 2 EASY distros for him that may support different hardware.

1. Linux Mint
and now
2. OpenSuse 10.3

Between these two he should be set.
