[SOLVED] First Person Shooters Locking Up!

I recently upgraded to 7.10 and was pleased to find many new easy to install games with the improved ADD/REMOVE.

I am having a problem though that the FPS games have a tendency to lock up on me for reasons I do not understand. I will be running around blowing things up in SAUERBRATEN or TREMULOUS and then the game will suddenly minimize to a small screen and I cannot do anything except log out of Ubuntu.

I have a rather new NVIDIA card and the driver is enabled.

Where should I be looking to tinker and solve these crashes?

It appears that having the fancy desktop effects enabled while you have graphic heavy games running makes things get twitchy. I turned off the effects and problem solved.

But... Maybe, is this possible to use fancy effects and 3D games at the same time? I am thinking Nautilus just have to keep it in mind and turn off effects when it starts a 3D game.... Or am I wrong?

Yeah, when I try to play DOOM, it does the same thing.
