Shutdown or restart hangs in Gutsy

Did a fresh install of Gutsy on a Dell 700m. Everything seems to work great with one exception. About 50% of the time when I shutdown or restart the laptop it hangs near the end of the shutdown process with a blank screen. Nothing will change this except for a hard shutdown (holding down the power button). ONCE I got a message on the screen that something was trying to shut down ethernet.

If somebody can direct me on where to find shutdown logs (if there are any) I will gladly post info from them or file a bug report with some more info. I've seen several posts on this type of problem, but no solutions.

Thanks!
