About a year ago I discovered that you don't need the file - just ignore that section, scanning is handled differently since at least Ubuntu 10.10.

See http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=366 and the few posts below it.

Undo what you did above and simply install the scanner driver off Brother's site. Follow their instructions and it should work.

Re: HOWTO: Ubuntu All Brother Printer & Scanner Driver Installation for Newbies!

    Hello everybody!

I'm new to this forum but I'm using Ubuntu for quite some
time now. My parents own a brother all-in-one machine. It
took me quite some time to be able to print and scan with
it. But it works now.I don't know if this is the right
place to post my question. If it's not, please tell me
    where to go.

Whenever I print, the upper margin is smaller (and the
lower one bigger) than on my screen. Totally fed up
with it I've put my odt file on a usb stick, planning to
use my parents windows machine for printing. I realized
just on time that odt is useless that way so I turned
it into a pdf. It came out the printer the way I intended
it to be, but the text size was to big to my taste. So
I opened the odt that was still on the stick. Apparently
word is able to open odt files! I adjusted the size and
printed the file. Guess What? The margins where wrong.
Does this mean that nor Ubuntu nor the drivers are the
cause of this problem? By the way, printing in evince
    gives the same result.

    Thank you for your help!

I've had the same problem as mentioned here with my network printer. For some reason, I wasn't able to print! Until I tried this:
In the printer ipd I just wrote the printer IP address instead of the printer name and VOILA! working. You may try it.

And if somebody knows why it doesn't recognize the printer name (instead of IP) please post it.

    Thanks.

[SOLVED] MFC-J430W on 64-bit using WiFi

The brother installation instructions for the MFC-J430 failed when executed as written. The following worked for me:

From the printer, using the printer's control panel, setup the MFC-J430W to connect to your WiFi.

Verify that "lib32stdc++6" or "ia32-libs" are installed.

in the directory where you placed the downloaded files from Brother, mfcj430wcupswrapper-3.0.0-1.i386.deb and mfcj430wlpr-3.0.0-1.i386.deb, open a shell and execute:

    sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture mfcj430wlpr-3.0.0-1.i386.deb
    and
    sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture mfcj430wcupswrapper-3.0.0-1.i386.deb

Next, load the scanner driver 64-bit brscan4-0.4.1-1.amd64.deb from the Brother site at:
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...nload_scn.html

    sudo dpkg -i --force-all brscan4-0.4.1-1.amd64.deb

Observe the correct scanner name for your device:

brsaneconfig4 -q (You should see MFC-J430W in the list)

Next, identify your printer's reserved IP address and save it for the next command:

    sudo brsaneconfig4 -a name=SCANNER model=MFC-J430W ip=192.168.1.202 (substitute your printer's IP address)

    Verify correct installation:

    brsaneconfig4 -q | grep SCANNER

You should see something similar to:
    0 SCANNER "MFC-J430W" I:192.168.1.202

After this MFCJ430W will appear in your printer list, and your printer and scanner are good to go.

Not getting this to work. I'm running 32-bit 12.04 trying to get my HL-2130 to print, and it won't. Everything went as it should according to the tutorial, with the exception of the actual printing at the end

Any ideas? And oh, I'm very much a newbie with ubuntu, so plz bear with me!

Everything went as it should according to the tutorial
    which tutorial?

if you paste the link below

    http://localhost:631/printers/

into a page on your browser: it opens CUPS: your printing admin

do you see your brother listed..if not, it is not installed..

.......if not installed, Brother make an INSTALLER.......

    http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agree...ng=English_lpr

that folks report does all the work for you...

....if you think your HL-2130 is installed but not working you can delete it and try the installer

...if you subscribe to a thread, folks can respond more quickly
