slow as in after about 10 minutes now its still zooming in to get closer and focus on my house. Takes my windows pc as i recall about 30 seconds tops.

vr - thanks! Downloading and installing the library fixed the "hangs at splash screen" problem for me (although on my computer the googleearth stuff is in /opt/google-earth, so I downloaded the library to that directory).
