Some suggestions for the non-Linux category.
AROS
DexOS
MenuetOS (it's mentioned, but it deserves its own entry)
Visopsys

Yes they're small but I'm taking into account functionality aswell. I'm gonna need some persuading on the usefulness of these to your average (beginner?) user.

DexOS is definitely a light OS, like MenuetOS, for old computers.
AROS doesn't count since it's for research/VM. Visopsys is nice I suppose, but is more than matched by other Linux distributions.

In the mean time, if you want, may I humbly suggest a GTK1.2 remix of Ubuntu? If you're working on machines that old, it might do the trick, and you can still use your .deb stockpile.

And if it does work, post a note to let me know how it went.

It's a lot lighter than PUD.
You can really only use it as a liveCD until K.Mandla gets the installer working.

It can be faster, it's just that on a Pentium, just about everything is going to run slow. Except maybe FreeDOS.

By the way, as you probably know, you can install Ubuntu on very old machines.

Performance depends on your level of motivation, and how many hours in the day you're willing to spend.

So it took you an insane amount of time to do it too? Funny, the I used the alternate CD which (should be) faster than the Live CD, but on my Laptop the Live CD only took 45 minutes (maybe even 15, I cant remember). I guess it's way faster. Which one did you use on Turbo (cute, you gave it a name, I feel sorry for it it's so old, do me a favor and put Turbo to good use....) and the other one?

Anyways, Pud or the GTK remix won't take 6 hours to install, will they?
