    Everquest 1 (Classic) & Ubuntu

I need to find out if, as of October 2007, the original Everquest, sometimes called Classic or EQ1, will run on an Ubuntu system. EQ is the only application that still ties me to Windows.

I am a complete newbie to Ubuntu and a long time EQ player.

If you successfully run the original Everquest on an Ubuntu machine, I would appreciate a basic outline of how to start from scratch. My hope is to load Ubuntu onto a separate computer and learn how to get EQ to run on it.

    Thanks.

As far as I know the only ways to runn a windows game on ubuntu would be to.

1.use a program called WINE that tries to make windows programs compatible with linux. ,but eq classic doesn't work with wine http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...estingId=10538

    2. if you still have the windows install disc you can try vmware http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VMware
to install windows with virtual hardware.

both programs are free. Best of luck

I run EQ1 on Cedega and play on an EQEmu server (Shards of Dalaya). It runs fine, with minimal issues (in fact, I can't think of any besides a few corrupt files via the shard patcher). The install is extremely clean, and as long as you have your hardware properly configured, it'll run well.

Cedega, sadly, costs $15 for 3 months of service. If you only pay the $15, you can keep your version for however long you want. If you continue to pay $5 a month after that, you'll get the new clients they release... there are some interesting tidbits about this though if you choose to use Cedega....
