Is there any noteable benefit in going from 2.6.10 to 2.6.11?
If there's not much to gain then I don't think I'll bother until we see an official ubuntu release of the 8.14.13 ATI drivers. They were a nightmare to install and I don't wanna try again.

Or put "radeon" if you have an ATI Radeon card.

If your system works fine as it is there's no need to use 2.6.11. If you just want to learn how to compile you could try my guide.

If you installed linux kernel tree as described in the guide the patches will be applied automatically when you compile. In a nutshell: no, you don't have to do anything, just follow the instructions.

Copter, why are you compiling kernel 2.6.11 if it didn't work for you before (when you downloaded it)? Why don't you try to compile kernel 2.6.10 instead? It will work for you now if you enable DMA in the kernel.

ok, i get it. i just asked because i had some ati driver problems with fglrx and i thought that those patches could be some help. anyway it works leaving driver "ati" in xorg.conf. ive found thread here how to fix it after custom kernel install.

    word.

im an idiot. 2.6.11 compilation error
    Code:
    drivers/media/video/saa7134/saa7134-dvb.c: In function `dvb_init':
drivers/media/video/saa7134/saa7134-dvb.c:56: error: too few arguments to function `videobuf_dvb_register'
im learning on my own mistakes... doing 2.6.10
