@ rainwalker- I like those icons, they are just like the ones I made, except they have the ubuntu logo which makes them even better. Plus, the emblems look really cool. I hope they go with icons like that.
I think they should stay with the clearlooks glossy widgets, but just make them better, with a nicer color theme. I'm not a big fan of the square/flat themes that look like open box.

I though about this a lot and I think that an theme using orange and black would be too overpowering for everyday use. Instead I think that small accents of orange and dark gray/brown with the current brown theme could really help put contrast in the right places and used sparingly could help give it a professional look. I know we want to do something new, but we have to be really careful and should progress in small increments. Think small pleasant surprises instead of mind blowing overhaul.

How does it look with the bottom panel in different colors?
I did a really rough version in GIMP with the main color being that dark brown and the items in that orange.

I think this theme would be awesome with brownish tainted scroll bars. It really takes the ubuntu colours and makes them look very elegant.Maybe something more like this, then?
