    Can Sysadmins identify individual .torrents?

    A random technical question:

Can sysadmins identify which torrents I'm running?

I'm in a situation where I'm allowed to use BitTorrent at work (for ISOs, patches and such), but we have a fairly draconian usage policy forbidding anything "potentially illegal" (i.e. everything else). I know that an administrator can identify BitTorrent traffic versus HTTP traffic, but can it identify a Ubuntu ISO versus MP3s or movies?

If so, how do I "fix" it? I could do something drastic like run BT through Tor, but that's a pain.

Well...maybe you shouldn't be doing it and save it for home time?

True, but then it's a moral question, not a technical question

Such discussions pertaining to illegal activities are not allowed here. If your employer does not allow such torrents, then you should take up this issue with them instead of trying to work around it which could cause you more trouble in the end.

Think carefully before executing commands containing "rm", especially "sudo rm -rf ", if you require more information concerning this matter, read this.
