    blackscreen on boot - gusty beta

    i upgraded from 7.04 to gusty just now, and when i boot i get to the screen where i should enter my login and password, and then it goes black with the cursor in the middle, and i can move the cursor and all but nothing happens beyond that stage!
    any ideas?
