a school in our area did this with some windows computers last year.

the corruption and procrastination in the school system is horrible-

the computers are 5 years old. the bus is now complete, but hasn't gone, nor probably ever will, becuase it needs an oil change and nobody is going to bother to do it.

the reason the computers are so old is that the tech teacher, who does nothing but surf the internet all day, didn't bother to plug the laptops into the bus. they were just sitting there, with only 5 minutes of work left to hook it up. it remained like that for 4 years

i hate some things about Hawaii

Congratulations to you and all your team, Daniel.

I must confess that I'm really disappointed with the actions of the brazilian government in the open source world. There is a lot of fuss in the international media about the compromise of Brazil with Gnu/Linux but I can't see those many promises beeing put into effect. As far as I know the use of open source in the public administration is lagging behind all the promised schedules.
Maybe our big problem is the lack of people like you that are skillful and eager to go ahead with new ideas. I think projects like the one you are taking part should be more publiziced in the country.

Congratulations! This is a very cool project. With 3 more buses coming (as reported on the 1st post), which I hope Ubuntu(Edubuntu?) is still the OS that you'll use, is a good advertisement not only for our community but the Linux OS in general.

as you could see its from Brazil, the Linux utilized on it is Ubuntu, both on 12 boxes and on the server. All of them connect to the server (IBM 206 xSeries). Ubuntu is perfect for our purpouses, I really have to thanks the Ubuntu team for the medias CDs.

Ps.: this is a partnetship with the federal government.

The project is a bus that have 12 pc, it will go over the city on quarters, offering courses about Internet and OpenOffice.org for poor people.
At first time the courses will be at morning and at night, on afternoon the bus will be open for community to use internet and OpenOffice.org.
Just wondering...is this great project still 'on the road' ?
