    Anyone ever tried Winutuxu ?

    Hello ,

In one or an other forum I stumbled on a treath about Winutuxu.
It should be Windows XP Pro SP2 and Linux in 1 OS.

    Winutuxu

It's all Arabic , but if you click on the screenshots you can see a bit what it is.

I wander if anyone tested this out , and if it's working well ?

Looks like it is just Ubuntu setup to look as annoyingly close to XP as possible.

If anything, I for one would like a hack to XP to make it run more like Ubuntu for those time I have to use it.

Perhaps what they are trying to communicate wasn't translated well to english, but they seem to be trying to pass off what is obviously nothing more than a heavily modded version of Ubuntu as somehow being a form of Windows.

    Their main page says:
    The Best Version of Windows.
Then, if you look at the first screenshot it says:
This version is completely different to the other versions of windows... The style never won't change, even after taking the updates from Microsoft.

One of the icons in the "Start Menu" even says "Microsoft Update." So, whoever made this is either very confused about what they have here, or they're trying to trick people.

The screenshots don't make any sense. At all. Some of them are clearly XP trying to look like Ubuntu, some are XP doing a bad job at it and a few look like Ubuntu trying to be XP. I'm almost half sure this doesn't exist.

Anyone brave want to try it?

Re: Anyone ever tried Winutuxu ?

Well, it seems that I was way off on my first post. When the virtual machine booted from the CD, this is what came up:

An actual Windows XP installation program.

It actually is some form of heavily hacked Windows XP. It seems they replaced all the default programs with open source programs, and somehow modded everything, including the installation process.

I'm sure that this is probably not legal, and Microsoft would likely have a fit. But I must admit I like the idea of a copy of Windows that looks as much like Ubuntu as possible, and uses open source software. It would make the unfortunate times that I must use Windows a little more bearable.

The install is still runing. I'll post an update/review once I try everything out.

Yeah, I didn't look closely enough at the screenshots that clearly show that it is indeed XP. The ubuntu "human" theme that they have replicated is very convincing and well done. (Although, perhaps they got that elsewhere).

why would you want a windows that mimics linux? or a linux distro that mimics windows? I personally dislike this whole concept, including themes that makes gnome look like xp or mac os x
