I used to love Google, but I don't know that I trust them so much any more. Like most good things, they seem to be getting a little too big, and it makes me uncomfortable somehow.
I am probably going to dump my Gmail account, because I've been getting canned e-mails from Google recruiters that are obviously keyed to the content of my mailbox. I don't know if that makes sense or not. ...
I'm also not keen on a search engine that keeps records on searches, especially after that whole AOL flub last year. I use Ixquick now, since they swear they don't keep records on searches. (I know: Promises, promises. ... )

I've read it, and I am not at all worried about Google. It did not apply to Google, it was about the FBI. I did not even see a mention of Google in the article. I did see a mention of Sprint, though, and that was interesting.
Concerning the primary subject of this thread: yes, I find Google very useful. Here are some sites associated with Google you might find interesting:

http://picasa.google.com/linux
and this silly page:

Have been using Google search engine and Gmail for years now. It is already the most widely used internet search engine and dominates online advertising. Wonder which other service is Google going to come up with in the coming years.

i dont worry about google's policies, mostly because they are unintentional or required by law. i love google, for it seeming simplicity and ability to offer me more than just a search engine. Google earth is fun, and i hope google desktop come to linux.
