    Seems great but get the following when entering ipblock -g after it has been started:

    It looks like you're using a java vm version 1.4. However, the GUI requires the version 1.5 or later.

    Had 1.6 installed but not enabled as provider. Got it up and running after: sudo update-alternatives --config java and choosing the 1.6. Thanks for the clue .

    IPBLOCK is of no use to some people.

    * level1.gz - Anti-P2P organizations and known government addresses
    If you're not using P2P, you don't need this "protection."

    * ads-trackers-and-bad-pr0n.gz - Advertising and data tracker servers
    I am not sure what this is, but ads can be blocked using Firefox extensions.

    * spyware.gz - Malicious spyware and adware servers
    Is there really a fear of spyware on Ubuntu? I've been using Ubuntu for over a year, and I have never come across spyware even though I download just about anything I see on the Internet.

    * edu.gz - Educational institutions and universities
    I don't understand the reasoning behind this one, but since I don't take my laptop to schools, I am not sure this serves a purpose at all.

    * bogon.gz - Spoofed IP-addresses
    Don't know which about Bogon, but unallocated IPs don't appear to pose a threat. As long as you're keeping yourself free of problems on the Internet, there's not much you have to worry about.

    It seems to me this application is more for people who like messing with the "dangerous" side of the Internet, and do so purposely.

    ACK. Some people don't even use firewalls or computers at all.

    Blocking hosts on an application based level is one way to do it. Another approach is to use programs such as peerguardian, moblock or ipblock because it is more convenient to do this kind of task in combination with the firewall.

    iplist/ipblock is GPL-Software and can be used for any purpose.

    Re: HOWTO: Graphical IP Blocker

    I've tried using this program, but i find it impossible.

    On the first run i try to click the enable button. It asks if i want to update the lists. I say yes, and it hangs there for 10 minutes until i kill it.

    Now everytime i run it, even after a reboot (!), when i click enable it shows an empty dialog. Actually all dialogs shown are empty.

    Also does it run at startup? Do i have to keep the window open for it to block? All of these questions would be fascinating if it would, you know, do ANYTHING.
