    The iptables command wasn't found. Which distro are you using and what does the following show ?
    Code:
    whereis iptables
    ls -l /bin/sh
    BTW, port number 900137 is misspelled.
    iplist

    Re: HOWTO: Graphical IP Blocker

    whereis iptables
    iptables: /usr/local/sbin/iptables /usr/local/lib/iptables

    ls -l /bin/sh
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2007-04-24 15:34 /bin/sh -> dash

    Also, I ran it as root from terminal. I also ran it from the gui and had to put in my password when it opened up and immediately opened up with errors.

    Re: HOWTO: Graphical IP Blocker

    Normally iptables is in /sbin/. So it's required to change /usr/sbin/ipblock (as root) and replace the line (26) starting with PATH with:
    Code:
    PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin
    There were also "error: update of ads-trackers-and-bad-pr0n.gz failed" messages, if that file doesn't exist but is listed in BLOCK_LIST, it will refuse to start. Looks like you're using 127.0.0.1:8118 as proxy. On my machine Privoxy which listens on 8118 blocked the download of ads-trackers-and-bad-pr0n.gz because it tends to block ads and banners etc.. This might be the case here, too.

    That fixed it...Thanks!

    How come the path was different on my machine?

    Very very very useful program.
    One note for the howto about the whitelist. ipblock service must be stoped because
    if it's running it will overide the changes in conf.

    Another note. I think that by default it should ignore traffic at least in http port
    because (with the current default lists) i couldn't even see some youtube videos!

    The problem is that port 80 can be used by any application (e.g. bittorrent client).
