Another trick (after you have installed the nvidia drivers)
    sudo rmmod nvidia
    sudo modprobe nvidia

    Then the xserver might start

Question Re: HOWTO: NVIDIA driver with Breezy kernels in Hoary

I have Ubuntu 5.10 (2.6.12-10-amd64-generic) and I'm installing the x86_64 8756 nvidia drivers. It says that my graphics card (nVidia GeForce 7900GT GPU is supported but after the install of the drivers, the X-server won't start. Attached is the error log for the x server and a text version of my xorg.conf. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
