Wink Ubuntu a long way to go!

Are you guys serious with this Ubuntu linux or linux in general? First of all you gotta be a complete geek to use it but dont get me wrong I've tried it and had some fun getting it to work and also had headaches with it. I still find that all the linux distros ive tried are quite techy for me. I never seen an os as simple as M$ windblows but ubuntu reminds me when windblows was in its 3.1 stage where you had to spend hours to get a few little things working.

I think you gotta simplify such a complicated os,

cheers

Re: Ubuntu a long way to go!

I have to disagree. I have only a basic knowledge of computers and I've completely converted both my desktop and laptop to Ubuntu. The only real hiccup I had was with the wireless on my laptop and in five minutes, just by searching this site, I had it solved. Hope you'll be patient, reconsider, and don't neglect the community aspect--it's incredible.

Re: Ubuntu a long way to go!

you only find windows easy because you are familiar with it. i'm sure when you first learned to drive (or when if you're not old enough) you found that a bit difficult to get used to. its just something different.

i bet learning your way around windows was just as difficult as it was for ubuntu. you've just forgot how long it took you to learn.

Or it's just you adjusting to change perhaps? After being on Ubuntu for 2 years now, and on Linux for 4, I find myself saying the same thing about Windows sometimes. Also, which version are you using, and what problems are you finding?

Oh and as to serious, hell I am...I've got every pc and laptop in this house converted to Ubuntu, and both me, my 2 sisters and my Dad use it every day with v. little problems.

Same here... Could not be easier once you are used to it. Can't convince all of my friends, but some decided to install Ubuntu. I have similar troubles with Windows nowadays. Oh, and Vista gives me the creeps in all honesty. Look forward to Gutsy.

I think it all comes down to ones willingness, choice and personality! As philosophers call it - you make your own destiny.

Re: Ubuntu a long way to go!

What made me laugh is I went into my local computer shop ulric to get a spare hard disk and I asked the bloke do you know anything about linux and ubuntu. He said "I like my computer to work when i want it too!" and showed me the M$ Vista Haha! People say linux is the way to go but its not easy to install new drivers and stuff or solve problems for the average user.

The problem here is that there are too many real Ubuntu users posting answers in this ridiculous thread. Let's stop answering this kind of posts and the trolls will leave.
