Thanks for the great installation guide. It helped me (a complete total newbie) get the install done smoothly and seamlessly. You might want to update your fisrt post to reflect the changes of an update that was released (2.60). I managed to install it by following your guide and just switching the filenames.

Question Re: HOW TO: install Enemy Territory

I've just installed ET on my PC and I've come across a rather annoying issue. Basically Every time ET loads I have to create a profile and it won't let me enable Punkbuster!

I installed the game as specified at the top of the thread and it worked fine

However I've just tried to play the game I can't! I think it some form of permisson issue
, I'm pretty sure there will be a work-around (or its me being a numpty) for the issue, surely I don't to install the gaeverytime I want to play

I'm very happy with the performance of the game, don't get me wrong (first taste of linux gamaing). Yet I feel I'm suffering here from my lack of Linux know-how, and my ******* way of thinking :/

    Sorry, I missed this post.

You should have a hidden file called .etwolf make sure you have permission to write to this file as well as the bas install folder. Are you getting any kind of error.

Try starting it in a terminal. Once it's running, go to a place and try to download a map (you are talking about ingame right) then shut of the game but don't close the terminal window. Now scroll back and see if you can find an error.

You should search the forums for help. You may not get the help you need by posting in this thread. That aside. What was your previos card? what is your driver set to? And have you installed the nvidia drivers?

What errors are you getting? Can you run/play the game using sudo command?
I know this may be a dumb question but how are you starting the game?(what command?)

Re: HOW TO: install Enemy Territory

I've been starting the game when I have problems via the shortcut in the drop-down application menu in Gnome!

If I do this again (install the game again) it works fine :/

    chmod +x et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run
    su -c "./et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run"
    bit stumped

    nehalem:

Thanks for this nice howto! It worked nice for me under Hoary, the only thing being I had sound issues, both on the stationary machine and on the laptop. However, they were resolved using the tips at the link you provided. Thoughtful of you to include that one!

    So... happy shooting, I guess!
