Cool Ubuntu Feisty on Kohjinsha SH6KB04A!

I JUST got Ubuntu Feisty installed on my Kohjinsha SH6KB04A. This is actually my first thread in the Ubuntu Forums. Why I haven't made a forum account sooner... I don't really know. I have been a Ubuntu user for some time now. (Previously a Debian-user =X). I thought I should make a thread on the progress of the install, incase anyone else wants to install Ubuntu on their Kohji or need help with it...

Right now... My wireless device, doesn't seem to be detecting properly. I'll give you guys an update on that and screenshots soon!

HAHA, yeah... it's pretty nifty!!! it had vista home addition installed. I couldn't wait to get rid of it

I have attached a few screenshots from my treo, it's pretty poor quality... my bro is borrowing my digi cam at the moment.

Re: Ubuntu Feisty on Kohjinsha SH6KB04A!

Sorry been busy... I finally got the Touchscreen working.

Simply downloaded the Linux drivers from penmount.com

http://www.penmount.com/down_2_1.php

It is the PenMount 6000 Driver, and guess what... there's one for Ubuntu!

Simply extract to folder and run the following script in the Drivers folder:
sudo ./install.sh

Configure it for Penmount 6000 [USB], you can customize your right click timing on the touch screen, etc.

Now after you've finished installing the drivers, simply restart X

Status:
Bluetooth works out of the box.

To make things a bit easier in gnome install the following applications:

sudo apt-get install bluez-gnome gnome-bluetooth

restart gnome desktop and you'll see a pretty little bluetooth icon on your notification area

Re: Ubuntu Feisty on Kohjinsha SH6KB04A!

Screen Resolution:
To get the correct screen solution on the Kohjinsha (1024x600)

Type this in the terminal:

sudo apt-get install 915resolution
sudo 915resolution -l

and restart X

Side Note:
TV is noted as useless on Conics site. I guess the TV adapter only works in Japan? Skipping this until I can find further info.

Re: Ubuntu Feisty on Kohjinsha SH6KB04A!

Another Note:
SD Card works out of the box. I have yet to test CF. Don't have a CF card to test with =(
Directional Pad works
Brightness
Scroll buttons work on the screen

The FN buttons seem to work, but it's hard to tell if they're working or not besides checking the fan noise and the Bluetooth and Wireless lights on the screen.

What doesn't work yet:
Buttons: Launcher, Shutter, Rotation, Enter
Wireless (Gnome NetworkManager, iwlist scanning, damn rt73usb)

Re: Ubuntu Feisty on Kohjinsha SH6KB04A!

May I ask how did you install Ubuntu on it? I've just gotten a brand new Khojinsha SH6 and I have no clue about where to begin for installing Ubuntu and/or Windows XP instead of the Vista Home Premium that comes preloaded. Did you use a bootable pendrive? An external CD drive?

Re: Ubuntu Feisty on Kohjinsha SH6KB04A!

I just got my Kohjinsha K601 (Korean version of the Japanese SH6) this week and I installed Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty on it

I did the install thru the network, setting up my other Ubuntu PC as a DHCP+TFTP server.

Wifi wasn't working out of box but it does now after I compiled Ralink driver version 1.0.4.0
See this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...ver/RalinkRT73

However, configuration is static with the default conf file /etc/Wireless/RT73STA/rt73sta.dat
and scanning wasn't working. I was able to fix that by changing source file rtmp_main.c
all #ifdef testing for WIRELESS_EXT <= 21 now instead of <= 20

About the special function keys on the right of the screen (Launcher, Shutter, Rotation), it's possible
to map them to execute shell scripts under Gnome desktop. First you have to map their scancodes (65, 5a, 66) to keycodes using e.g. setkeycodes 66 122
Then with gconf-editor, you can change /apps/metacity parameters global_keybindings setting run_command_1 to 0xd2 (keycodes are different but you can get them with "xev") and keybinding_commands command_1 to a shell script path.
For example, Rotation key can launch a command "xrandr -o left" to change screen orientation

The webcam doesn't seem work.
USB vendor/product id is 05c8:0109 Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink)
uvcvideo module is loaded but cannot initialize the device
