Ubuntu hands down.
The best linux? 2.6.20-16-386
The best distro?
Ubuntu for desktop. Debian for server.
How do I install <program X> || I want a script!! || Chinese isn't ready for the desktop
'Eentonig' means boring in Dutch
I have to admit; that ironically enough, the best Linux distro I have ever used is Oz GNOME 1.0.
Ubuntu 7.04 with Beryl and Puppy Linux.

So far the best has been Ubuntu Feisty (actually I use Kubuntu).
I have tried SuSE 10.0, PCLinux 0.92, and checked a couple of others like Linspire, ...
Not really tried the Last Debian.
I like the working out of the box of Ubuntu, and the automatic updates and security fixes. You feel some testing and engineering has been done.
Debain hands down.
Guess
Freespire for me, kubuntu just doesn't have the software or strength ubuntu, Gnome is to bland for me
I dont care about the drivers and stuff, but i do the KDE and how well freespire/linspire do with its base, now that freespire 2.0 is almost out it will be better ( the betas are sweet) all they need is the restricted manager because installing the Nvidia drivers are still a pain, and I don't know if envy works with freespire/linspire
The 'best' in terms of absolutely everything including the kitchen sink with lots of wizards for all the mundane stuff is Mandriva 2007 Spring Edition. Mandriva is good for both servers and desktops and makes a great 'do everything' machine for a small business.
The 'best' for servers with a high security posture is Redhat/Centos 5. It comes with the NSA SELinux which provides extra protection and separation of functions. If you need to build a government/military server, then this is the one to use. This is the only system on which you are allowed to handle multiple levels of classified data, although doing so is a huge pain in the *** and best avoided.
Ubuntu is the 'best' in terms of a small desktop centric Linux and is great for grandma, your girlfriend and general purpose laptops.
