that's probably because you're probably using nautilus so you have to have "own_window yes". so compiz treats conky like a window. there is a "window color" option in the ~/.conkyrc file but i don't think you can make it transparent and add composite effects. this thread might be of more help: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=281865

Do you know how to make conky appear on both the left and right side of the screen?
Thanks in advance.
I've attached my conky, it's actually 7 conky scripts that are all started by "dual-conky" (edit the paths accordingly). The Gmail.py template can be found here: http://vredfreak.atspace.com/projects.html
As for conky appearing on both the left and right side, do you mean on both monitors or on each side of one screen? You can easily put conky's anywhere by messing with this section:
Code:
alignment bottom_right
gap_x 0
gap_y 0
You make one of them bottom_left, the other bottom_right, etc. and they appear accordingly.

Hey herbster,
Thanks for the zip files of the conky scripts. I didn't know if I could run conky and display different items on the different parts of the same desktop (bottom left and bottom right) and the same time. Apparently you need to run conky for each part of the desktop you want. I'm going to get mine working and upload my desktop when I'm done.
Running multiple instances of conky, is there any real noticeable system hit?

Check out my new Gmail skin...using the Firefox extension "Stylish", I was able to take 3 different scripts, and change all the colors and some pixel sizes, and perfectly match my gtk-2.0 theme.
...then click advanced on each script and adjust the hex color codes to match your theme. It takes a little while to figure out what color affects what part, but it's worth it.
