Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn

Password Error

Whenever I try and open a program that needs the administrator password I get this message after I type in the password

Quote:

Failed to run /usr/sbin/synaptic as user root.

The underlying authorization mechanism (sudo) does not allow you to run this program. Contact the system administrator.

And after that message has appeared once the program won't start again

Could someone please tell me what is happeneing?
