HOWTO: Lexmark Printers

hello sorry for asking but this thread is quite huge and I cannot read it all.
I'd appreciate if someone can tell me (a beginner) how to install my Lexmark x1200 printer on Ubuntu 10.4

I have this printer shared on a win pc.
I can see the printer with samba network.
I've tryed to install and use the x600 driver but even if document is correctly sent to printer it do not load paper and do nothing.
Anyone can please help?

According to this page, the Z600 driver should work.

Does the printer work when directly connected to your PC (i.e. not on the network and not shared with the Windows PC)?

The instructions you sent me are for ubuntu 9. They can fit also ubuntu 10 ?

About the printer I cannot connect it directly but I don't think it is a network issue.

Usually, things do not change that much from one Ubuntu release to the other.

Hello there,

i´m very new to the linux world. shortly i have installed ubuntu server.
i would like install my good old lexmark z33 printer but have big trouble with it.
i have read many posts about an installation work arround with some lexmark printers but
i got it not work. So dear experts i need your help.

i followed all this installation instruction from this thread but then at the point at step:

Check whether the printer backend works; Code:
$ cd /usr/lib/cups/backend
$ ./z600
i got nothing back.

then i tried out to modifie /etc/fstab

with:

usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=14,devmode=0660 0 0

and the mount command : mount usbfs
i got this error:
mount: mount point /proc/bus/usb does not exist

what can i do fix it?
I think i make mistake in the meantime. i tried out this command in my confusing sutation:
mount --bind /dev/bus /proc/bus
and have overwritten my folders in /proc/bus ?!
can i redo this binding command?

So i hope you can help me.

@tiggsy your version do not work for me.
if i select in add new printer my lexmark i got the message driver not found.
if i add a new printer by uri i cannot go further. so this seems not be the right for z33.

how can i add an mountpoint?

It seems as if the URL's have changed, I cant find the RPM's for any of the printers. Can anybody help?
