What are the main reasons for Ubuntu's success do you think?

Let's have a poll on this.
I personally think it is because it is free, fairly awesome and also that Vista is a bit too steep on hardware requirements.
    What do you think?
    Thanks.

Ubuntu is just a well thought out and put together Linux distro. Its easy to use and has a lot of available software.

If you want you can easily add proprietary codecs and DVD to make it usable.

i agree with all the poll options, those are all valid reasons.

but another major factor, IMO, was the financial backing of mark shuttleworth.

    1) Ubuntu is successful is because it has a HUGE community around it. Being debian based, it started off with plenty of developers and had people used to the type of system.

    2) Mark made a smart decision and said that it wouldn't have 5 septillion web browsers and 3 octillion text editors. They make smart defaults and that makes the use experience easier.

    3) It came around at the right time. It installed very easily compared to many other distros at the time. They took the lead in ease of install.

    4) It's free. People are probably less likely to try linux if its at a price.

    5) It is marketed very well. The names are very easy to identify with ubuntu, and the human theme is a dead give-away of an ubuntu desktop. The website is professional.

    6) It is well funded.
