Great that you got the game working guys, and I will update to version 0.9.41 soon to see if there is a regression, though it would seem like there isn't. (Sorry about my absence for the last week, been very busy)

Re: How I got Halo: Combat evolved working on wine 0.9.39

Hi! I installed the game without any flaws (using wine 0.9.41) and updated the game sucesfully also. I followed all the steps and they all came out good except the last step (playing). My problem is when I try to run the desktop icon launcher, i get a "Fatal error" message or a message that says another copy of halo is running on this machine (see pic). What did i do wrong and how can I fix? FYI: I have a AMD 64 Processor 3500+ and a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache video card and 2gigs of RAM.

Hmm I've never seen that problem before, try doing a
    Code:
    wineserver -k
or a system restart, then running the game again. Or you could try running the game in a terminal by typing
    Code:
    wine "C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo/halo.exe" -novideo

tried both, still getting the same message. Also, i forgot to mention that I also get a "Gathering exception data..." message before the fatal error message.

Sorry for the delay, I've been very busy, but anyway. I tested wine 0.9.40, and experienced no problems, in fact I noticed a slight increase in framerate. I will test 0.9.41 and see if anything's changed.

    Update:

Tried wine 0.9.41, and Halo still works, although I don't know whether this was with .40 as well but I have noticed some major improvements to sound since .39, for example the menu was crackly for me and now it's perfect.

    Fantastic. Great work wine devs!

Wine 0.9.42 released, Halo still works, no noticeable improvements or regressions.

Well I got around to installing this yesterday and it works except for one thing. It doesn't play in fullscreen but in a window and part of the screen is cut off so I have to run the game in a virtual desktop. I assume gnome is in the way as I ran this in Kubuntu and it ran perfectly (as well as SuSE 10.2).

Does anyone know a way to run this in fullscreen? I assume you, lordhebe, got it to work as I didn't see a post saying otherwise. Also as with many other people the mouse was laggy so I just bumped the sensitivity from 3 to 7 and the frame limiter to NO VSYNC and it runs smooth but not as smooth as in fullscreen (like i Kubuntu).

Thanks and glad to be a member of the forum.

Re: How I got Halo: Combat evolved working on wine 0.9.39

Sorry my sincere apologies, I should have made note of this, but I use a workaround to get it fullscreen. I use XVID mode for changing resolutions, because it zooms in the picture rather than changing the resolution, and then move the mouse to hide the window borders. You do this by running regedit, and changing The string value
    Code:
    UseXRandR
    to
    Code:
    N
    and
    Code:
    UseXVidMode
    to
    Code:
    Y
Sorry I should have mentioned this before.

Where are these strings located at? I tried searching but I found nothing. Thanks.

    Press ALT+F2 and type
    Code:
    regedit
You may have to create new string values. The string values I am referring should be in
    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/X11 Driver/
Sorry just realized that I didn't tell you the directory of the string values. Look at the wineHQ page for registry keys for more information. http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
