How I got Halo: Combat evolved working on wine 0.9.39

Seems the ATi driver is really messed up still get the same errors more or less and hard lock, tried crossover, well got to menu but no control in the window and the menu was 4-5times bigger than the resolution set aswell as sound jumping over and over before shutting down.

So a no go

Well, since I've last posted, I've had NO luck or improvement. Halo, on wine or crossover and on ATI, is TOTALLY and UTTERLY unplayable. :'(

Not having much luck with 09.50. Normal mode of entering halo results in the virtual desktop suddenly shutting down. Going in by safe mode starts the game, but gives weird graphics (text lines are white boxes, instead of the Halo moving in the background there is just a gray shape).

Then again, I wasn't exactly getting anywhere with 09.39 either... =P

Hmm, the fact it works is good news, need to try it myself at some point. Apologies for my long absense, due to work I have been forced to convert to windows, going to set up a dual-boot system at some point.

OK, the fact that it works on Wine.52 is great news. But what are the exact steps to get it to run. Also has anyone tried wine.53.

Hello! I play Halo 1/CE and Halo alot (on XP)and I followed this article to get it to work in ubuntu. Well, when i start the game, (this happens with the trial and the full version) I get this error message from my monitor, and NOT the game: OUT OF RANGE Hf: 30khz-70khz Vf:50hz-160hz, 75.2hz 60hz.

So-it seems that the game is set to a horizontal frequency that my monitor can't handle-i need to know how to set it lower, or what to do. I have multiple computer parts and monitors, maybe i should try another monitor...?

I would really appreciate some help!
