I'm up to the last code and am not sure how to edit it for my music folder. It's in

    h /media/Back Up Drive/MUSIC/MUSIC - Full Albums

    Here:
    Code:
    avatar-factory -g music '/media/Back Up Drive/MUSIC/MUSIC - Full Albums' ~/Albums
You can also drag and drop the folder to the terminal.

AWESOME! It's building the list now. We'll see how it looks in a few. So where should I start if I want to understand the types of code I just used? I'm completely new to linux and have no programming background except a little BASIC on a Commodore 64 (WAAAAAAAY old school) LOL.

OK, what just happened? It finished and now I have a folder called albums with all the album art thumbnails like I wanted (if I view it with Thunar) but they aren't folders, it says they are desktop configuration files. Double clicking does nothing and right click only gives execute (causes error in Totem) and open with.

This seems to be based on tags. Not all my tags are correct (or some are missing). I'm looking for something that just takes the exiting meta data or image files in folder and uses it for the thumbnail like in windows. So far I prefer almost everything about linux way more than windows but this is getting annoying. It shouldn't be so hard. I don't want a new folder of config files or links, I just want to keep the same folders and folder structure, set it to icon view and have thumbnails of album covers.

I appreciate your help though, I did get it to work. It just wasn't what I was looking for. I'm sure that somewhere, someone is crankin' out some code for this right now, But this is the closest thing I can find so far, so I guess I'm gonna keep lookin.

    Try this:

    Delete all created avatars:
    Code:
    rm ~/Albums/*.desktop
    Then:
    Code:
    avatar-factory -g music --folders --icon-size 27 --type 0 '/media/Back Up Drive/MUSIC/MUSIC - Full Albums' ~/Albums
Use nautilus and they should work as folders.

To understand that command you can read the manual:
    Code:
    man avatar-factory

To understand that command you can read the manual:
    Code:
    man avatar-factory
line 272: Wrong: command not found

    (after the second command)

It isn't based on tags. It should work for any folder containing music and at lest one picture.

Sadly thumbnails for folders are not supported in any file manager that I know. Nautilus allows to have custom icons but thunar doesn't.

OK, that's WAY closer. But when I open the albums folder, I have all the bands in folders first and there aren't any icons yet. Once I pick one and open it then all the albums have icons and they open to the folders now. It's the closest I have got so far. Is there more I (you) can do for the folder with all the bands?
