I have just installed a new Dell SC1430. It has an ATI ES1000 graphics card. I can't get Totem or VLC to display anything when I try to play video files (AVI, MPEG, etc.), but MPlayer does at least display something.
My problem is, like I have seen in many other posts, that in anything larger than "normal size", the playback is about half normal speed. All the similar posts that I have read are for different graphics cards, and none of the fixes or workarounds seem to work with my ES1000. I am using the gl2 driver. Everything else either gives an error, displays nothing, or (with gl) displays with lots of horizontal lines and ghosting. I have installed the fglrx driver, but my X-server won't work when I set the display driver to this, in the xorg.conf file. I am running Feisty Fawn (7.04), on a quad-Xeon, with 1GB RAM. There should be enough resource. I have noticed that, even in "normal size", one of my CPUs is always utilised at about 100% (the graphics load doesn't seem to be shared between CPUs - no surprise there) - it seems that my system is not utilising the hardware graphics capabilities of the ATI card. I have checked the AMD web-site, but had no luck finding a better driver. Any ideas would be welcome. Last edited by The Foz; July 5th, 2007 at 05:35 AM..
