Thinking of switching to Ubuntu on my desktop

Right guys i have a few questions about Ubuntu and Wine that i have to ask because your forums has me intrested in your OS hehe.

I only use windows because i play games, but i'm pissed off at its stability issues it chucks at me sometimes (Like Firefox just popping an error and closing on me or SWAT4 doing the same thing). The current list of games i play are:

    SWAT 4
    Company of Heroes
    Guild Wars (all 3 games)
    Descent: FreeSpace
    Descent: FreeSpace 2
    Command and Conquer 3
    America's Army 2.8.1
    Need for Speed: Carbon

I wouldn't mind dual booting to play some games just as long as i get some working fine under Ubuntu im all good.

Also, i want to learn to do all the stuff you guys do from CLI, relying on a GUI in windows to do everything is boring to me now lol.

EDIT: I should post my system specs too i think

    AMD Athlon 64 3000 @ 2.249ghz
    1GB DDR400
    ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
    300GB HDD
    Logitech G15 keyboard
Logitech G5 mouse (Do they work under Linux?)

    Thanks in advance.

This might be a problem (ATI). I would switch to nvidia or something not ATI.

The games are hit and miss. Gamers can tell, I cant. I have seen some cool stuff with Cedega.

Dualboot is possible, might be your best solution if you have only one PC. If you have two, I would set up a separate box.

HD-DVD code:I cant tell you because I got an infraction for posting it here.

    Hi,
SWAT 4 ---> Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory with True Combat Elite MOD
Company of Heroes ---> (i don´t know, maybe via wine)
Guild Wars (all 3 games) ---> how-to run in Ubuntu via wine: in this thread here
Descent: FreeSpace ---> Babylon Project (much better, and many great others)
Descent: FreeSpace 2 ---> Babylon Project (much better, and many great others)
Command and Conquer 3 ---> Spring or Warzone 2100 (and many others)
    America's Army 2.8.1 ---> America's Army 2.5 (same, but for linux its version 2.5)
Need for Speed: Carbon ---> Racer or VDrift (more TOCA RACER clones kind of)

Of course these games aren´t the same, but, they are free.
You can search for wine (a kind of windows emulator, good for windows games over linux)
Look for Linux/Ubuntu top free and open-source games: here

Hmm, i think i'll have to stay with ATI because i donth ave the money to get anything else. As AGP cards cost an arm and a leg these days.

I'll check the Wine database for the games i listed
