Exclamation Post your system specs and tell us if your Ubuntu desktop is sluggish.

I wonder if we can figure out a pattern on why the Linux GUI feels sluggish on certain hardware, post your system specs, system setup and weather the Graphic User Interface (desktop environment) feels slow or sluggish when rendering Windows, Icons, etc…

    P4 1.6Ghz
    768 DDR RAM
    WD 250GB HD
    ATI 9700 Pro 128MB

Default Ubuntu Gnome Feisty Fawn 7.04 setup with ATI restricted driver, a separate login with XGL-Beryl but I use the desktop with out Beryl most of the time.

The rendering of windows and response time is slow, if I drag a window and watch CPU Usage % it jumps up to nearly 100%.

My hardware has no problem running Windows Vista, and is above the requirements of what Gnome needs.

You need an "r" in that title, pilgrim. It should be "Tell us if YOUR Ubuntu....."

Now that grammar nazi minute is over...

    Emachines T6212
    AMD 3200+ (2.2ghz)
    1gb Ram
    250GB Western Digital HD
    Nvidia 6600 LE (256MB) card
    ATI XP soundcard.

Gnome, Feisty 7.04, no noticeable lags on the system, and I use it for World or Warcraft, Guild Wars, Counterstrike Source, etc.

    My specs:

    Compaq P4 1 Ghz
    1 Gb Ram
Nvidia Geforce 5500 PCI video card
    2 70Gb HDD
3 GB Swap (probably more than I need but what the heck)

My machine is so fast that it makes my eyes bleed some times.

I have to look away from time to time to stop my molecules from splitting apart it's so fast.

If it were any faster it would be in another time zone and I would have to keep resetting the clock.

Sometimes, my machine opens programs and launches web sites as I'm thinking about them.

Can't get much faster than that.
