You used to have Windows installed, right?

Just kidding. It is a scary thought. This way, a virus could do actual physical damage to a computer. On the other hand, most companies value the data on the drives more than the hardware. Hardware is replacable, (unbackupped) data isn't. Virusses tend to steal or corrupt data more than mess up computers like they used to.

Hello, the pwmconfig patch isn't helping the situation in my system.
    I still get the
"/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed" error.

    Any help is appreciated.

Are you very sure you corrected the pwmconfig file right?

If so: it may be right, you may not have any pwm configurable fans in your computer. Most Dells don't, for instance, even the new ones.

Do you get any results in fancontrol under Windows?

    Re: HOWTO: Fancontrol

Yes, I've triple checked the procedure

I've got a desktop pc, via kt266 chipset and in windows I control the fans' speed using Speedfan.

I did a search on the forum and found this
    http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthre...ight=pwmconfig

I have the same motherboard chipset and the same kernel version.

I really gotta lower these fans, I've got low temperatures and a fan that sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

Did you do all the things in here? If you go "sensors", what does it output?

Yes that's the howto i followed to make lm-sensors working.
This is the output I get.

    Re: HOWTO: Fancontrol

Have you tried booting the 2.6.8 kernel? It seems to solve things in the other thread... Weird though.

    Part of my /etc/modules
    Code:
    # lm-sensors stuff (remmelt)
    # I2C adapter drivers
    i2c-viapro
    i2c-isa
    # I2C chip drivers
    lm75
    eeprom
    smbus-arp
    w83627hf
I don't know... Could you check the fix in the pwnconfig script again? I checked mine and it's been put back to the original setting, I don't know how.
    Good luck!

Nice guide, I'll give it a try on an old test computer shortly

Yes, it's called speedfan and it's pretty good! Works very well under Windows.

    Re: HOWTO: Fancontrol

I've got the PWMconfig and LM-config working,
it's doing fine on both my fans (nforce2)
However, one of those fans is set to cool my HDDs.
I have read most of these forums, but can't seem to find my answers:
I've installed HDDtemp to monitor my discs (didn't find other tools for it)
But: is it possible to add these values to PWMconfig, so that fancontrol also regulates this fan ?

PS: I'm a linux-newbie, installed this last week....
