Black Windows in Beryl

Cheers,

I installed Feisty on my system 4 days ago and installed beryl 2 days later. everything is working fine
until today wherein I encountered that some of my windows opens black. Some of the Windows that i open can show after I minimize and restore the application a couple of times but some remains black.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Re: Black Windows in Beryl

no idea how to fix it. I've had the same thing but only twice. Reading this makes me realise it has happened and just after I have installed beryl. Good question but its probably something either that beryl is working on or the graphics card or lack of ram maybe?

Re: Black Windows in Beryl

oh and just now its done it again, I right clicked beryl manager and under select window manager I picked compiz and low and behold I could see the black windows. This isnt a real solution since it brings you out of beryl (and they great cube) and moves your windows but it should work if you dont mind the hassel. I suppose you could pick your other window manager aswell if you wanted too.

Thats why I disabled Beryl on my machine for the meantime. And re-enabled Compiz.
I read somewhere that it is a know bug, and that bug happens to occur in the nvidia driver.
Hopefully they'll fix this pretty quick.

If only I could get the Beryl effects in Compiz.

I've also been experiencing the same problem using Feisty with an nvidia card. Sometimes if I minimize the window and maximize it again, it will show normally. Other times reloading the window manager sometimes does it. A serious pain--any help is appreciated!

Re: Black Windows in Beryl

This is the infamous 'black window bug' in the NVidia drivers.
It helps setting the "Rendering Path" to "Copy" in Beryl Manager.

Well I hope they do get this bug fixed, beryl is useful (and aesthetic of course). Oh well, at least I know I'm not alone. It was seeing beryl and ubuntu that got me booting linux. Oh and that copy thing, worth a shot too see if it helps so cheers

Re: Black Windows in Beryl

Hi,

The following worked for me, with a NVidia 5200, 64 MB VRAM. It was suggested by djdoo in the thread that's linked above.

This is with the 9755 driver.

In the advanced beryl options, set: Texture from Pixmap; Force AIGLX and XGL binding. Leave the others as automatic.

No more black windows! (yet)
