Although it isn't actually for gnome, I love amaroK
I'm keen to give banshee a go though.
Rhythmbox is fine for me, it just misses an integrated tag editor and cover art support but it's coming
Listen is my favorite, wonderful features for music lovers, but also Rhythmbox, is more solid.
Exaile is indeed ugly.

XMMS + gxmms. (gxmms gives you control over XMMS trough an applet in gnome-panel)
Check out this link to my blog. I discuss my own hunt for the amaroK killer in Gnome.
I'm sticking to Amarok (I actually preferred typing amaroK, it's cooler ), even though I tried all music players available in the bunch.
Exaile! is standing out as a great alternative for GNOME, I really like it... but I still don't understand how most of the people here cope to listen to music without equalization. That's one of the features that would make me switch from Amarok to Exaile!.
Are you using jackd, plus the LADSPA plugins for output, or are you using the default sound setup? Because the default setup well... sucks, in terms of sound quality, and most of the playlist based players (Quod Libet, Rhythmbox, Banshee, etc) don't have an integrated equalizer.
N800 in my pocket, Acer 1410 in my backpack, Thinkpad X31 on a shrine
I'm currently using Exaile. Rhythmbox annoyed me by having long gaps between tracks, and a lot of the music I listen to flows from one song to the next. Banshee looks quite good so I might give that a try. For me, integrated equalization isn't a problem my computer links straight to my stereo system which has a graphic equalizer for each channel. Don't know how anybody else copes though.
