The location bar search feature in Firefox (when you enter a word or phrase in the location bar, Firefox loads the first Google search result) is not working for me in Ubuntu 7.04. I know about keyword.url and keryword.enable in about:config, and they are set correctly, but whenever I type something other than a URL into the location bar, I still get my ISP''s DNS/search page.
Any help would be much appreciated. This is my first post and my first Ubuntu install, so wish me luck! BTW: I'm lovin' Ubuntu/Kubuntu so far. I came from Slackware, so I really appreciate how polished and easy-to-use everything is. Last edited by aquaboogie; April 22nd, 2007 at 02:10 AM.. |

Re: Firefox location bar search in Feisty Fawn
I'm not sure why you're using the location bar of firefox to search with when there's a perfectly good search box on the right side of this.
Or did I misunderstand you? Last edited by hikaricore; April 22nd, 2007 at 02:34 AM.. |

Re: Firefox location bar search in Feisty Fawn
Sorry. I should have been more specific. What I meant was that I want to be able to type a word/phrase such as "wikipedia" instead of "en.wikipedia.org", or "amazon" instead of "amazon.com". (It may sound trivial, but I use this feature a lot and it actually saves me a lot of time.)

Re: Firefox location bar search in Feisty Fawn
Does anyone else experience this problem? What I have noticed is that if you enter two or more words, search works fine in the location bar but it fails woth one word, which is weird. Someone on the Mozilla forum suggested that it is because DNS lookup fails and the browser takes me to my ISP's page. However it does not happen on Windows. Any ideas because it is very annoying?

Re: Firefox location bar search in Feisty Fawn
No, I did not. Still have to use two words to activate the search

Ahh... thanks. Was hoping to hear better news
Maybe I'll see if it's the same under a different distro? |

Re: Firefox location bar search in Feisty Fawn
Well, I tried this with a Suse Live CD and the results were the same. Wish I knew the difference between Windows and Linux and the Firefox versions
