If I do http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/xfce and http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce I would have only xubuntu?
Fantastic website first of all, I've used it more times than I care to count. One thing I noticed, is that it might be worth updating http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/classicgnome to take into account that the Indicator Applets recently got ported to classic gnome: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/11/indic...ome-3-can.html which really helps with the appearance and usability of classic mode in 11.10. Also if you change the panel background settings to "Solid Colour" and zero transparency it gets rid of the unpleasant bubble effect that you see around the panel applets. Oh and customization of panels requires holding Alt+right clicking.
Also Compiz can be used to get desktop effects back. There is probably a nicer way to do it, but I have just added "compiz --replace" to my startup items and it seems to do the trick. Final result here: http://i.imgur.com/JXuF4.jpg and I think it looks pretty good in comparison to Gnome 3.23.
Just some thoughts in case you were interested. Thanks again for the excellent learning tools!

I am too much of a newbie to have much to offer...
But this is a GREAT site.
Thanks so much... help for this simpleton.
Possibly answered elsewhere. If I still desire Gnome, may I use
and still get the xfce desktop installed? Will it clobber Gnome?Code:sudo install xubuntu-desktop
Like Xfce but like Gnome as well. Will give Gnome3 & Shell a try, but if need be will use Xfce. I'm attempting to be prepared either way. Want to keep using Gnome until a) no longer am able b) preference leads to a. TIA.
It will be installed along-side Gnome.
