Firs: Laptop (Acer Travelmate 2480) - Ubuntu Feisty Fawn - Internal and external (jack) speakers
I have a problem after upgrading to Feisty Fawn. At first I didn't have any sound but after trying this: sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and inserting this line: Quote:
With my external speakers pluged in jack there are still sound comming out of the internal speakers (like before). The problem is that there in alsamixer is no "surround" volume setting which there was before (in Edgy - or when the sound didn't work) to control the volume of the internal speakers. And now the "front" volume setting is not just for en external speakers (like it was before) - but for both the external and internal speakers (but this is NOT a problem - since I always had it at max anyway). But I would like a setting to turn down (or off) the volumen of the internal speakers in alsamixer (or OSS?) I hope someone can help me. By the way: There are no Xes out of "alsa-utils" in "sudo sysv-rc-conf". But I really don't think there was that in Edgy either.

Re: No jack/external sound OR both internal and jack/external sound
Try changing it to model=acer. I believe that acer has their own model type that needs it. You might also try 3stack or laptop if that doesn't work.
You might also need to compile and run the latest alsa drivers. I had to do that for my HP laptop. It wouldn't mute the speakers when I plugged the headphones in. |

dannica12345 - Which version of Ubuntu do you have?
And if you use Feisty Fawn then try what I wrote in my first post in this thread - but maybe with "model=acer" instead of "model=auto".

I need some help again. silverglade00 ?
Same thing. I still have model=acer - but after a crash it dosn't work anymore. And if I set model=auto it does like it did before. Both internal and external at the same time. My computer crashed while I was using xev and pressed the "play/pause" button. My music player (Listen) played and pause again and again and again. I don't really know why. Nothing responded so I had to press (and hold) the turn on/off button on my computer. And now no external sound. Anybody?

It is actually the same problem as to begin with (something have changed the ACER-settings).
But the solution before was: Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop options snd-hda-intel model=xyz options snd-hda-intel model=3stack So does anybody know how to "reset" the ACER-alsa-settings or something? I really need this. model=auto still have sound on both internal and external speakers - but how can I then use a headset when the sound is still comming out of the internal speakers? Any ideas please. Thanks.

I don't get it. But suddently it works.
This morning (Denmark) I tryed what I did yesterday and how the sound works like before (good!). I did this: - Reinstall all app. with the word "alsa" in it - Removed: Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer - Changed: Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop position_fix=1 - And then finally ran: Code:
kill $(lsof -t /dev/dsp* /dev/audio* /dev/mixer* /dev/snd/*) ; sudo modprobe -r $(lsmod |grep ^snd |awk '{print $1}') && sudo modprobe snd-hda-codec && sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel model=acer
Thanks everyone for trying *EDIT* Works after restart.
