http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=208855 for GFXboot...

www.gnome-look.org for GDM themes and splash themes...

And as for ATI... There are no good drivers for ATI on linux. See the ubuntu wiki for more.

As I understand it... (and I may be VERY wrong here)

It goes like this... BIOS, Grub/gfxboot (where you select which OS), Splash screen (loading the OS), GDM theme (Gnome login window), and then your desktop.

In that case its only the
Splash screen (loading the OS), GDM theme (Gnome login window) that i want to mod.

Don't worry mate, we'll get there. See my posts on AOC. This could be a pet project, but I unfortunatelly do not have the hardware to fully test

Those are usplash themes, if that helps your searching.

Doesn't the splashscreen come after the GDM theme and before Desktop? And isn't it called usplash? What I want to know is what is proper name for the screen that just says "ubuntu' and has the orange bar underneath that moves back and forth? Where is that image kept? And, can I stop that bar from moving or completely remove it? Thanks for help.

After login and before gnome that screen that shows up is the Desktop Splash Screen.
