I've patched the source to save settings in ~/.sdb/ instead of the current directory, and look for data files in /usr/share/sdb/

No graphics get displayed on my system I do have quite an old graphics card though, so does it work for anyone else?

Your sdb package seems to rely on Ubuntu Backports packages, just in case anyone was getting errors installing it about libgcc1 or something.
