Gnome has too many features

I can't believe the amount of features they put in Gnome! Really, these things should be taken care of immediately.

Splash Screen and Wallpaper: Imagine, the first impression your grandma will get when she sees "Ubuntu" pop up all around the desktop. Is this what we want? Do we want grandma thinking her desktop has been taken over by some alien clan that loves brown? Take this out and the average user will be much happier.
Burn data CDs: The average user would be nuts to do something this geeky, ESPECIALLY if they burn files outside their home folder. Everyone knows the average user just burns audio CDs of songs downloaded off of Limewire anyway.
Gconf-editor: Where do I begin? With the click of a button, a user can change options such as...putting an address bar in the file browser. The person will be so comfortable going through their files, they might end up in /! The sheer amount of folders there is enough to make the average user go berserk, wipe their hard drive and install Windows right away, which is a chance we're not willing to take.
Folders: Too many folders intimidate grandma, and if they get used to them, they may browse outside of their home folder and change everything and cause the computer to blow up. Do we really want this?
Hidden files/folders: You can hear the average user right now: ".gnupg? .bashrc? I don't remember these! I'm not using a system where I don't know what a file beginning with a dot is!" And off they go back to Windows. Trust me, this happens.
Character Map: Why would you want to type non-standard characters? You can't even pronounce them!
Keyboard Shortcuts: This is seriously for the power user. The average user loves the point-and-click ease of the mouse, if they hit control plus a letter a preferences dialog might pop up and the computer goes flying out the window. For the sake of the average user's sanity and lawn ornaments everywhere, this should be taken out.
Keyboard support: Support for basic letters and numbers is debatable, but the entire right side of the keyboard has to go. The average user thinks that "Print screen" and "End" are hacker tools to print things at random and turn the computer off. If we can find a way to offer the choice without the average user being intimidated by the choice, Gnome should offer a choice to buy a saw to remove the right side of keyboard.
Desktop icons: Think about it: if we promote the use of desktop icons, the average user actually has to minimize the currently running programs to get to it! Isn't that too much strain and hassle on the average user? It would certainly be better in the long run to not support these at all; think of how many mouse clicks it'll save.
Preferences: An average user's worst enemy. The user should never need to change, say, the path for their music. Heck, they're an average user, they shouldn't even know a "path" is. Or even a folder. It's just way too complex in the long run.

I won't be giving Ubuntu to the grandma until this happens. I'm holding out for Gnome 3.

But I don't want grandma's OS. Maybe grandma can look for something simpler.

The lack of text is good, but it needs icons. Icons = user friendly. In fact, it should contain nothing but icons. Not even a taskbar. I mean, seriously, what average user runs more than one program at once?

Re: Gnome has too many features

After careful consideration and various studying of usability tests, I believe this should be the next version of Gnome:

* Note: Everything should be antialiased, it should look more shiny, and be beautiful.

Re: Gnome has too many features

I'm pretty fine with the way GNOME is right now. A few improvements could be made, but I'm satisfied with GNOME.
And Linux isn't the only OS with Hidden Folders. If I recall, Mac OS X and Winblows have Hidden folders and files as well.
