Convert Mov to Avi
Ok so i have just recently switched to ubuntu from windows and would like to know how to convert my .mov video files to a Divx .avi file? In Windows i would just use river past video cleaner. Is there any software to do that in linux, i prefer to not have to use terminal when there is a GUI. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Re: Convert Mov to Avi
Avidemux (GUI) is pretty good but I usually use mencoder (commandline).
(avidemux doesn't really use divx, it uses xvid of libavcodec which are the same thing, mpeg4 part2 [imo higher quality])

Re: Convert Mov to Avi
Greetings from Puerto Rico
I know your pain. I'm having the same difficulties as we speak. I try Avidemux it does have a GUI, but I can get it to work for me just yet. I try Acirip and work for me. It has a GUI and is just business, will peak the stream of video, crop well everything. The only drawback is you don't have the selections and tools that you get with Avidemux. You can download Acidrip from synaptic, just look for the name, and downloaded. I'm also working with Drip it also has a GUI. You have to select he preference your self before you encoded anything, ( if you don't know what your doing in that step the end result, you get the picture ). You can download Drip with synaptic. I hope this helps, you got some choices to make now. Let me now how you did. Last edited by fragman; February 26th, 2007 at 10:22 AM.. |

Avidemux did the trick for me. I just had a *.mov file with no audio that I needed to convert to *.avi. This player did it quickly and easily. Highly recommended, at least for videos with no audio.
