I have an older G12 that works reasonably well. It's not exactly a pocket camera, but I like the full manual controls.

Smartphones have been taking over the low end point and shoot market for several years now so Im not surprised Canon would decide to focus on higher end point and shoots and dslrs. I didn't find this past years numbers in a very quick search but point and shoot sales from around 2012 black friday were 36% lower than 2011 so its looking like a quickly dying market.

Canon needs to make smart phone camera modules instead of the the crappy units that are normally installed. Nokia is an exception, but then you are stuck with a Windows phone. How cool is that?
