    laptop compaq evo n800v

    dapper xubuntu

acpi: fan never turns off completely. It states "ok" but is in "active(1)".
(Workaround: make machine work until fan turn to "full noise speed" , then kill the process, wait -> fan turns off)

palm-sync with gnome-pilot does not work reliably. In the forums it was reported to be a kernel-bug with some versions (can't remember exact details)

No 3d rendering. I believe the graphics card is not correctly detected. It should be an ati mobility 7500 (hardware-specs from compaq), ubuntu detects 8500. I think there is no accelerated driver for 7500?

backlight adjustment does not work as soon as x is started. (?!)

No dvd-playing on external monitor (black window)

    minor issue:
    loudspeaker-keys are not recognized

All in all a very pleasant experience!

    Gateway M675

BCM4309 wifi card only works with ndiswrapper and windows driver.

Sound malfunctions and can only be acquired via using the mic plugin instead.

As if the laptop isn't loud enough, it gets louder.

Battery gage and function(fn) buttons don't work at all other than the screen darken ing and lightening one.

1)Type Of Hardware: Dell XPS M1210
    2)Hardware Maker: Dell
    3)Hardware Model: XPS M1210
    4)Known Issues:
    a) Computer does not automatically go into standby mode when lid is closed, i.e. fn+esc (Stand by) must be pressed first. If computer is left in stand by mode more than 1 hour, will not wake from stand by and must be powered down and rebooted.

    b) Screen brightness selection causes GDM restart. When fn+up/down cursor is pressed, GDM immediately halts and restarts.

On the same laptop, under edgy, the loudspeaker-volume-keys are recognized. By the way, these are generating normal keyboard scan codes(never got around to set them up under slackware). Panel brightness and fan control dont work under edgy either.

    asus m2n4-sli
    nvidia 7900gs x2 sli

boot from CD produces 'Kernel Panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn´t work!'

adding noapic at bootime allows you to boot but no audio and no SATA.. nv driver is loaded but results in a black screen i had to ALT+F1 then edit xorg.conf and change the driver to vesa and restart X

after installing i added 'enable_8524_timer pci=biosirq' at bootime...now everything works
