    Ubuntu version: Kubuntu 6.10
    Type Of Hardware: Laptop
    Hardware Maker: Benq
    Hardware Model: Joybook R53 EG

    Intel 915PM
    Celeron M 380 1.6Ghz
ATI X600 128MB VRAM on PCIE
    RAM 512MB DDR2
    HDD 60GB Hitachi
    Wireless Atheros AR5005G
    DVD Philips DVD+-RW SDVS8441
    Card reader Texas Instruments PCIxx21
    Intel HD audio

    - Wireless adapter Atheros needs Madwifi driver from http://madwifi.org/
    - Motorolla SM56 modem is not working(Hopeless)
    - ATI X600 card works better with the open source driver than with the binary driver from ati.com. The binary driver is causing random lockups (8.28.x to 8.34.8 tested)
    - Card reader works with SD cards (1 GB tested). Some additional steps needed http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost...92&postcount=1
    - Fn+F1+F2.... keys are working
    - DVD is OK (DL burn not tested)
    - Audio is OK
    - Synaptics touch pad works great with KSynaptics

This laptop has broken DSDT, although no problem encountered with Edgy(I had a lot of problems with SUSE). Fixed DSDT is avaliable on http://acpi.sourceforge.net/ .

    The configuration of my PC

    OS: Kubuntu 6.10
    CPU:Athlon XP 2800+
    MB: Abit Nvidia 2 chipset
    RAM: 1.5GB Apacer
    VGA: Albatron Geforce 7600 GS256MB
    Scanner; HP ScanJet 4P
    SoundCard: Build in
    DVD+-RW: NEC x52x16x24
HDD: 2x Western Digital SATA 200GB
SCSI: SCSI card Initio for scanner
Everything works fine. The scanner though MUST be turned on during boot otherwise the OS doesn't see it. The same happened in Windows 2000/XP also so it's common practise for SCSI devices

    Re: Hardware Compatibility Guide

I couldn't actually FIND a database, but here, so far, in all it's Ubuntu/Linux nooby glory is what I have:

Averatec 5428HX laptop. Hardware complement is:
    AMD Mobile64 2800+
    1GB RAM
    100G 5400RPM Seagate HD
    VIA AC97 integrated audio
    RhineII integrated 10/100 NIC
    RaLink RT2500 802.11g wireless card
Keyboard inerface works perfectly, i.e. volume, mute, contrast, etc...
I don't know what video card is in it, but it seems to work well, also.

Here are the distros and experiences I have tried on this machine.

Feisty. DVD Image from internet, via BitTorrent, all hardware was recognized, and all seemed to run perfectly, except the wireless. It was seen, and it could see the router, but it would never acquire an address. If I statically assigned an address, it still wouldn't go anywhere, network-connectivity-wise. It would even see the Cox DNS servers on the other side of the cablemodem, but still no love. I was never able to figure that out. Cut the losses, and went back a step to:

Edgy. Oh, JOY! Every device, nailed. Wireless works perfectly, after about 7 seconds of massaging. The massaging involves adding the name of your WAP to the network card settings. Happy, happy, joy, joy. I even recommended the release to my buddy, who D/L'd the CD image... He is as in love with it as he can express in words! I'll be providing him with a DVD image as soon as I see him in two weeks. Can anybody tell me the difference (besides the SIZE, thanks...) between a CD image and a DVD image?

    Re: Desktop Hardware Compatibiliy List.

    Compaq R3120US notebook computer.

    • AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M 3000+ Processor (based on AMD64 K8 core)
    • 512MB DDR SDRAM (PC2700) -- I added another 1GB of Kingston memory, no problems.
    • 15.4" WXGA Display (up to 1280x800)
    • nVidia GeForce4 420 Go, 32M dedicated
    • Hitachi IC25N 60GB hard drive (not tested)
    • Hitachi-LG GCC-4241N CD-ROM (24X/10X/24X CD, 8X DVD-ROM)
    • nVidia nForce3 AC97 audio interface
    • RealTek RTL-8139 Ethernet controller (chip type RTL-8101)
    • Broadcom BCM4306 802.11b/g WiFi controller (rev. 03)
    • Texas Instruments PCI1620 CardBus controller
    • nVidia nForce3 winmodem (not tested)

Everything works out-of-the-box with the notable exception of the BCM4306 wifi controller. Solutions include:

    1) ndiswrapper, confirmed to work. Use the sp29361.exe driver. Search for it on the ndiswrapper compatibility hardware wiki (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...ndex.php/List). Cabextract the files out and use bcmlw5.inf & bcmlw5.sys.
    2) bcm43xx kernel driver /w firmware. Use the Ubuntu wiki (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...Driver/bcm43xx) for assistance.

The Ubuntu hardware wiki suggests installing with "linux noapic," but I had no problems installing normally. Use your discretion.

    Using 6.10 Edgy Eft.

    Re: Desktop Hardware Compatibiliy List.

    Processor: 3000+ AMD 939
    RAM: A-DATA 3200
GPU: ATi X850XT -- This is the problem.
Harddrive: Seagate Barracuda 250gb, and a Western Digital Raptor 32gb.
    Sound: Creative X-Fi
Motherboard: TUL 939 Motherboard ATi chipset.

The installation CD has problems with my GPU.

    Hardware: IBM Thinkpad T30
    RAM: 768 MB
    Ubuntu Version: EDGY EFT

No problems with any services. Everything works out of the box. Netgear PCMCIA wireless card does not work but that due the marvell chip set which is made in TIAWAN, the china made chip set is reported to work.
COMPIZ and BERYL both perform decently on the 16MB video card (ATI Radeon 7500). sound and USB support out of the box with no tweaks.
suspend and hibernate also work without any problems. IBM hot keys work after installing thinkpad packages from the ubuntu repositeries.

Will post results of the FEISTY install soon
