    Tested in Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit.

Status: works fully. Was having audio sync issues with Cheese but guvcview works absolutely fine with it. Didn't trouble-shoot Cheese, perhaps the audio sync issue could be worked out there.

In gstreamer-properties it is detected and used as a Video4Linux2 device and I'm pretty sure the webcam just follows the UVC standard.

Both video and audio from the device are fine.

Installed Skype 4.0.0.8 64-bit from its official web site and both the webcam's video and audio worked correctly with no additional configuration on my part in a call to a Windows XP machine.

    Version: 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin
Processor: Intel Ivy Bridge i7 3770k
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus V FORMULA Atx w/ Intel Z77 Chipset

Everything worked great right out of the box except for the Intel onboard graphics - they took a little convincing but now run great.

Dell Optiplex gx150 (Intel Celeron 1 GHz, 512 MB memory, from 2001).

Everything works with Lubuntu 12.04 when using the alternate ISO.

First the BIOS should be upgraded to A11.

During installation some combinations of boot options are needed, for example nolapic and acpi=off. This is done from the F6-menu.

After installation: If you see a garbled screen after applying all updates and rebooting, the boot options can be replaced with

    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="vga=791"
(more about VGA codes here). Don't be afraid of editing the GRUB 2 configuration, it is no big deal.

The computer does not serve any useful purpose by today's standard. Installing was mostly done for the challenge of it.

Don't use this space for a list of your hardware. It only creates false hits in the search engines.

    Re: Desktop Hardware Compatibility List.

Is there a Hardware Compatibility List for SLED somewhere? I think I saw
someone link it once but I can't find it. I'm specifically interested in
printers and scanners. (I.e. if someone buys [device] is it going to
work or cause me no end of grief.)

I found this 'NOVELL: Partner Product Guide: SUSE Linux Enterprise
    Desktop' (http://www.novell.com/partnerguide/section/676.html) but
that's not really any use since there's only one printer listed there.
(I guess hardware's only going to get YES certification if the
manufacture makes the effort to get it and most won't.)

    I found this 'HCL:Scanners - openSUSE'
    (http://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Scanners#Scanjet_3970c) but it only refers
to openSUSE and is inevitably far from definitive.

Version Of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 12.04.1 desktop amd64 LTS
    ---------------------

Type Of Hardware: 3.5 Inches USB 2.0 4 PORT INT/EXT DUAL HUB BAY [Genesys Chipset]

    Hardware Maker: Iocrest

    Hardware Model: SD-U2HUB-4

    Link to product image:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...b_lfb_prodpg_0
    ---------------------

You will need a Internal USB TYPE-A or you can run the cable through to the back ports. Also, you will need a floppy drive power connector. I also bought a:
    ---------------------

Type Of Hardware: NEC 5 PORT USB 2.0 PCI CARD ADAPTER (4 external ports plus 1 shared internal port)

    Hardware Maker: NEC

    Hardware Model: UPC 844660002840

    Link to product image:

    ---------------------

For more USB ports and to hook up the hub. Both work OUT-OF-THE-BOX. If you look around you can buy the whole setup for about $17.00 delivered.

Other than that, no issues what-so-ever, installed the hardware, set the BIOS, installed Ubuntu, and I was done.
