    Re: Desktop Hardware Compatibility List.

Hi I am running ubuntu studio 13.10 on a gigabyte ep45-ud3r mother board.
with a q9750 quad core cpu and 4 gig of corsair system memory.
a pci express 2.0 zotec geforce gt630 gpu with 4 gig of memory.
a pci pchdtv 5500 tv card.
    19"kds monitor.
    usb 2.0 epson cx8400 printer/scanner.
sound blaster audigy 2 zs sound card.
    built in intel sound card.
    usb 2.0 card reader.
    hp sata dvd reader.
    sony sata dvd burner.
    sony 3.5 floppy disk.
1tb 7200rpm segate hard drive. ( i have also run 3 80 gig 7200 rpm seagate hard drives at raid 5 untill all three of the drives faild me after about 4 years of use.)
this machine was built around linux compatable hardware but is on the falling edge behind the i3/i5/i7 processors and advancments in usb and sata data speeds.

Rosewill RNX-N600UBE Dual Band Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter

    Ubuntu Version: 13.10
    Type of Hardware: Wi-fi Adapter
    Hardware Manufacturer: Rosewill
    Model Number: RNX-N600UBE

It works out-of-the-box with Ubuntu 13.10. It has a nice long USB cord and the actual adapter sits nicely on a level (or nearly level) surface. This is more of a desktop wireless solution because I would prefer just a little dongle if I were using it for portability with a laptop, but for a desktop, especially maybe a tower you put on the floor, the USB cable and separate adapter would be ideal.

Unitek USB 3.0 to SATA 3.0 HDD Docking Station

    Ubuntu Version: 13.10
Type of Hardware: USB 3.0 SATA 3.0 HDD Docking Station
    Hardware Manufacturer: Unitek
    Model: Y-1072

This docking station works flawlessly with Ubuntu 13.10 via USB 3.0 with a couple of Western Digital 500 GB drives I have, but I have a 1 TB Western Digital drive that would not work with it via USB 3.0, though it would work via USB 2.0. I went through a bunch of troubleshooting, RMA'd the drive, and the replacement also failed to mount. I filed a bug report, then an upstream bug report, and still go no solution that would make the 1 TB drive mount. I got my hands on another external drive enclosure (an Icy Dock Blizzard, see below) and it works fine with the 1 TB drive, so I suspect it is a chipset issue with the Unitek.

Icy Dock Blizzard 3.5" SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure

    Ubuntu Version: 13.10
Type of Hardware: USB 3.0/eSATA External HDD Enclosure
    Manufacturer: Icy Dock
    Model Number: MB080U35-1SB

Works out-of-the box with Ubuntu 13.10 via USB 3.0. I haven't tried the eSATA connection. I've had issues with three other brands of HDD dock/external enclosures and USB 3.0 in Ubuntu 13.10, and this is the one that works best. I haven't had any problems with it.

Rosewill RX35-AT-SU3 USB 3.0 External HDD Enclosure -- FAIL

    Ubuntu Version: 13.10
Type of Hardware: USB 3.0 External HDD Enclosure
    Manufacturer: Rosewill
    Model: RX35-AT-SU3

I've tried two of these, and neither one will reliably connect to Ubuntu 13.10 via USB 3.0. They occasionally connect, but it's not reliable at all. They do work via USB 2.0, but if you don't have a USB 2.0 connector on your machine you'll need to disable XHCI in your BIOS (if you can) to use the older EHCI controller at USB 2.0 speeds. It's a kludgy workaround at best, and who wants to pay for a USB 3.0 device to get only USB 2.0 speeds?

This works with the Pixma ip4700 printer too. Just change mp610 to ip4700. With Ubuntu 14.04.

Don't known much about the terminal. But good at copy and past.

    Here's a guide for a Pixma MP610 (and similar printers) running from a 64 bit Lubuntu 13.10.

Without USB cable attached: Reset the printer on the display.

    Run
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    and
    Code:
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
just to make sure that everything is up to speed. Reboot as needed.

    After that
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon-trunk
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-mp610series
    Now connect the USB cable.

    Go to System -> Printers

    Click 'add printer'.

Wait a couple of minutes until you see MP610 in the window to the left.

Select the printer and proceed with next, next, next, finish.

Now printing should work and the same goes for Simple Scan, the built-in scanning application in Lubuntu.

only it will not shut off, it will reboot a couple seconds after you have shutted off the machine.

Thumbs up [Lubuntu] Compatible - Wireless Card

    Ubuntu: Lubuntu 14.04
Hardware: 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter
    Maker: TP-Link
    Model: TL- WN951N

    • This wireless card worked out of the box.
    • It has an Atheros chipset and is using the Ath9K driver.
    • It is fitted in a Dell Dimension 1100 desktop, (year 2004) Intel Celeron D 2.8Ghz

    Note:
I have used TP-Link wireless cards in several Linux computers and found, in my experience, they have good compatibility.

    Re: Desktop Hardware Compatibility List.

    Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Desktop computer 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 2 GB corsair memory, Gforce FX 5200 PCI,
    Dell
    Dimension 2350
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and it worked no problems except the graphics weren't good and it was slow because of the shared memory. I installed a Nvidia Geforce FX5200 video card, it installed automatically and works fine and the graphics were great and it ran faster. Then I replaced the 2.2 GHz Celeron with a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 now I have a computer that runs fast like a new machine.
