(Maybe this is a no-brainer, but I searched the topic and found no reference to it.)

I was pleasantly surprised with this purchase since I neglected to check out its compatibility beforehand. I am not the main user on this machine. So I don't have all the details.
Everything worked, but I haven't tried the HDMI output. There are only threes things that needed a little adjustment. The rest is straight out of the standard Karmic installation.
08:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
NetworkManager didn't like it at all. I switched to wicd, and it worked okay for a week, even though it was kind of slow for an undetermined reason. All of the sudden, it stopped working completely (suspending may be to blame). So I switched to MadWifi (v0.9.4), and it's been working perfectly.
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics]
The default install was usable, but I wanted full 3D. Switching to the restricted ATI drivers under System -> Admin -> Hardware Drivers worked fine.
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
Default installed worked fine, except the microphone stopped inputting after 10-20 seconds. I had to reboot to get it to work again. I did two things to fix this, and I am not sure if one would have done it without the other.
- First I installed the linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-17-generic package
- Second I commented out "options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N" in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Release: 9.10
Hardware Type: Desktop
Manufacturer: Gateway
Model: GT5086b
Installed OK from Live CD.
The configuration in my signature works. The only caveat is that I can't seem to get the onboard mic to work. The workaround I have for this is I use the C-Media usb:
Audio and mic works greatCode:Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter
Shuttle XPC
Ubuntu 10.04
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
2GB Ram
ATI Radeon X1550 512MB
ASUS DVD burner
It all works well except for the optical drive, but that was $25 in the first place
Acer Aspire 4710z
1.86 Ghz 533 Mhz FSB (Pentium Dual Core)
1GB Ram(512 * 2) @667 Mhz
160GB HDD (hitachi)
BroadCom Bluetooth(2035)
Atheros Wifi
Ubuntu 9.10
BroadCom Ehternet Controller
All the keys are working fine expect bluetooth key as it generating two events ,however the switch is working fine

1)Version Of Ubuntu : Mythbuntu 9.10
2)Type Of Hardware : dual usb stick tv tuner
3)Hardware Maker : Peak (Kworld copy)
4)Hardware Model dual tuner usb stick 399 model
USB ID : 1b80:e400
Needed to upgrade standard 9.10 Kernel to 2.6.32 using the ubuntu kernel .deb files
& copy firmware af9015.fw version 4.95 to /lib/firmware
kernel headers and image found in ubuntu kernel repos.
firmware found on linuxtv.org
Peak tuner is a copy of the Kworld U399 model
As I'm inexperienced with ubuntu and mythtv it took me a lot of working out but I hope this helps someone

(1) Ubuntu Version: 9.10, Karmic
(2) Dell Dimension E521 (bought from Dell at the end of 2006)
(3) CPU: AMD 64 3200+ 1GMHz
(4) Display card: mother-board integrated nVidia GeForce 6150 LE
(5) Audio card: Sound Blaster Montogomery 3, also integrated
(6) Monitor: Dell E177FPc (17", with an analog interface only)
Works excellently after solving the display car driver problem (See below).
Linux distributions used in history on this PC:
1. Redflag Linux 5 & 6
2. Xubuntu 8.04, Xubuntu 8.10, Ubuntu 9.04
All worked fine.
Problem after installing Ubuntu 9.10: ”cannot display this video mode“ problem with Ubuntu 9.10
Problem Description:
After the basic installation and update (sudo apt-get update), from System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers, there are 3 versions of the proprietary display card drivers: 96, 173, 185, among which version 185 is labeled "[Recommended]". However, using this driver will cause the ”cannot display this video mode“ problem. (There is also another line of text below ”cannot display this video mode“: "optimum resolution 1280x1024 60Hz".)
Solution:
Install version 96 of the display card driver. Both 173 and 185 will bring about the problem just above mentioned.
Use display card driver vesa to start X to modify X configuration with VI if the problem occurs.Only on X can I install version 76. Do not know how to install it under console. If you installed version driver version 173 or 185 and cannot start X, switch to the console mode (Ctrl + Alt + F1, or F2, or, ..., F6), edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf,
Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
...
EndSection
Comment out this line:
# Driver "nvidia"
Add a new line:
Driver "vesa"
(vesa is a pseudo-driver which makes it sure that X window starts correctly though the resolution is not high.)
Problem unsolved: A highly possible mother-board related defect with my PC
However, I'm sure my this PC has a mother-board related defect , which causes the system freeze once or twice a day, several days or one week. I've excluded the possible memory problem by replacing it with several other brand memory chips, but the problem remains all the way from Redflag Linux, Xubuntu and Ubuntu.
