This setup works very well for an inexpensive XP/Feisty duel boot with no repartitioning risk:

    E-Machines T3828
    Celeron D Processor
    512 MG RAM
two Western Digital 80 Gig Hard drives.
Embarq 100Mb/s Ethernet box, E100 driver.
    Ubuntu 7.04

Starting with a normal XP-box, make existing XP-drive Slave, install new blank drive as Master. Install Ubuntu to Master drive, GRUB will load with Ubuntu, no changes made to XP drive. A useful setup for a desktop that requires XP for work. No risk to Windows files.

    Talking Dell D620

    Hi,

I've installed Feisty (Ubuntu 7.04) on my company-laptop this weekend.

It worked mostly out of the box .

The only thing I had to customize was the resolution; it booted with 1280x1024.
To switch to native 1280x800 I installed 915resolution and set the mode to 1280x800 16bit

    $sudo 915resolution 38 1280 800

    Custom steps:
    - Resized existing windows-partition using gparted.

    Type: Dell Latitude D620
    Version: Ubuntu Feisty 7.04
    RAM: 2GB
    LAN: wifi/cable
    HD: 75 GB
    Secc. OS: MS windows

    Toshiba A135-S4666
Works fine. Suspend works. Hibernate works too. Like the rest of the A135 series you need to compile your ALSA drivers to get the sound to turn off on the laptop when you plugin a headset.

It's "Dual Core" but won't run 64-bit. Battery seems to last about 2 hours and a half.
    Very good buy.

I also took Vista off because it's so slow. XP = huge speed boost. Anyway, I had to locate the XP drivers so I'll list them here for anyone interested.

I have this for Mobile Intel 945GM Express drivers:

Using Atheros AR5xxx 5.3.0.35 for wireless drivers:

    SmartCard 2.0.0.6
    Haven't looked

Is there a list of printers that work perfectly with Ubuntu 6.10?

ASUS A7N8X-VM Socket A mATX board
    Athlon XP 2800+
    768MB PC2700 RAM
ATI Radeon 8500 LE Video Card
    Western Digital 80GB IDE HD
    Seagate 200GB IDE HD
    Creative Soundblaster Live! 24-bit PCI
    Philips DVD-R/RW drive
    Dell FP1707 17" LCD monitor

the first time i installed Ubuntu Feisty, (nearly) everything worked great and even the ATI card used native resolution of the monitor (1024x768 ) without any extra configuration. had a little trouble enabling the sound correctly on the SB Live! card, mostly because there's 4 different CA1086 items listed with no indicator as to which is what. in spite of that, i was able to get sound output from the hardware. had some trouble with VLC player not putting out sound, but that's a software issue.

after hacking around with different stuff, installing Fedora onto the same drive (and over the top of Ubuntu by accident), i formatted and re-installed Feisty again last night. now ATI card only goes to 800x600 res. not sure about anything else yet; haven't had much time to look at it more in-depth.

the holy grail for me on this computer is to be able to use the TV-Out on the ATI card to play stuff on my HDTV from Ubuntu. currently i do that with Catalyst Control Center in Windows XP via S-Video (this is dual-boot machine.) if i can do that via the DVI port to HDMI, that would be the best, but i'd settle for S-Video *if* it works correctly from w/in ubuntu.
