HP with Ubuntu

I read that HP is offering Ubuntu as an option on some of its notebooks.
I couldn't find them on their site though (I live in Europe, where they are supposed to be available).

Does anyone know where to find them?

Re: HP with Ubuntu

Hi the only thing, that I have read about this. Is that HP will sell some types of notebooks, which have a pre-install of Dos and an copy of Ubuntu. So that the user had do install it himself.
But I think that you didn't find these notebooks in the stores now. As I read.

here a link, but it's in german: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/58740

Maybe it helps, I hope so. Finally I'm very happy about HP's decision to do this.

greetings Bart

Re: HP with Ubuntu

It's not on the market yet. Hopefully in some weeks. But you will not find it on the HP website. Will be sold over resellers. I will post a note when available

Best regards

Thomas

Re: HP with Ubuntu

A silly question, but if I buy such a model right now, will everything work with Ubuntu (Hoary)?

Except the sd-card reader. No Linux driver for that device so far. And there is an option either to have a broadcom wlan or Intel wlan card. Regommanded is the Intel one as their are Linux drivers available. The broadcom device needs to be used with ndiswrapper and the win driver. Meaning, this will not work out of the box but needs to be enabled manually.

Best Regards

Thomas

Re: HP with Ubuntu

So is this HP Ubuntu anywhere near release soon? And where can I get it? I have an nc6000 and would love to get it working properly.

Hello Thomas

I mailed HP Belgium about this and they have no knowledge of this project...
