Supertux Super Slow!

supertux has recently become incredibly slow for me, I've racked my brain and can't think of any relevant changes I've made. I'm running edgy, and even with all other applications closed it's slower than molasses in january. I'm not too broken up about the loss of supertux, but it really irks me to not be able to figure out what the problem is, any suggestions?

did you check your fps glxgears ? still good ?
